PROGRAM:  President Russell introduced Dr. Helene Spivak, OB/GYN.  Dr. Spivak (it was mentioned that President Russell had to read his wife’s resume, rather than knowing it by heart after 18 years of marriage).  Dr. Spivak shared the history of the laser and the numerous uses and application of lasers.    Gasses are used to harness the energy and radiation to focus the power beam of light in a direct manner.  OB/GYNs utilize the laser for cosmetic purposes for hair removal.  All woman, in all walks of life, face the problem.  Her personal experiences drew her to the industry.  The Laser seeks the pigment in the air (won’t work on gray hair, ooh darn!) so it works best on fair-skinned, dark haired people.  Dr. Spivak explained the process, which requires several treatments (5-6) to meet the 3 phases of hair growth.  The laser is also used to remove tattoos (get rid of that past flame’s name); exposed veins, reduce wrinkling, etc.  Not used to pregnant woman or light sensitive patients.  It has a broad range of uses.

Some scarring can occur with tattoo removal, dependent upon the type of laser used.
Reversing the process has not been perfected (sorry Mike L.).

Other uses of the laser included use for surgery, including lasik eye surgery (precision is incredible).  Services are done at the office; prices vary with the area and the time it takes ($89 for one treatment, such as the upper lip or ear area).  It’s about $400 - $1,000 to do a general area.  Some antibiotics can trigger a reaction.  Wrinkle removal is done through plumping of the wrinkles, but not permanent (preventative is the best method to avoid wrinkles – stay out of the sun, reduce alcohol, never smoke, etc.).

Great information for anyone with unwanted hair, any place.
