Speaker:
David Glass
Former mayor of Petaluma, now radio personality at  KSRO 1350 AM.

David Glass’s past history includes sports announcing and working in the bond market, before his mayorship.   David reminisced about his 78 vote mandate (about the number of people in Petaluma DMV at any given time), getting behind the bleeding tax edge of obtaining a natural gas vehicle for mayoral duties,  expousing the virtues of upcoming Measure M sales tax- that little increase will bring major improvements to 101, lamenting on the Cinnabar Theater funding noes which were difficult and should have been supported.david

David also educated us on the need to replace our current waste water treatment plant- it’s an old 1938 one which was obsolete in 1988, and is currently in violation of environmental regulations which have stiff fines.  Unfortunately no money was allocated in the past for infrastructure replacement however we can get a state funding of $125M at a very cheap 2.4% if we can come up with seed funds.  Some thrift-minded Petalumas oppose even that funding so beware of the complexity of this issue if it comes up for a popular vote.  For example, fund from prior water hookups went into the operation fund, not saved for seed money for a plant.  The old water rates were therefore subsidized- and lower than they really should have been.  That and other water issues are becoming more of a concern in the upcoming decades as government faces the challeges of global climate change and drought.

Did you know the mayor’s job pays $10 per meeting up to $40/ month!   Wow, there’s only four meetings per month!  Not!  Needless to say, with a family to raise and kids getting geared up for college, David did not run for re-election, passing the torch to our current mayor, Pam Torliatt, whom he describes a very experienced in government.  Spoken like a true politico Dave and thank you for a job well done while in office.

Adios.
