Rumor Has It……The Valley Girl has already set a PVR Record: “Shortest Presidential Tenure Before Misplacing Gavel”…congratulations President Sally!

Today’s Speaker: Today we had a club assembly. Each of our club leaders spoke briefly about our club’s activities and projects and encouraged our members to take part.  We began with Linda Postenrieder, our Membership Chair. Linda encouraged all of our members to consider bringing more quests this year; look for new Chamber Members, or business folks in the area; we also that other clubs’ Rotarians will use our club for their make-ups.

      speakers

Jo Thorton
a quick overview of Club Activities (Jo Ann Pozzi and Tricia Perkey are Chairs). New this year is “Family of Rotary,” spearheaded by Kevin Downey. Libby and Bob Hill presented our array of Vocational Activities. Members have the opportunity to serve as mentors, Junior Achievement teachers, Interact Advisors. They can also help with dictionary distribution, Camp RYLA, Cool Kids Camp, and High School Opportunities Night. Libby stressed that what we do in this area is also to encourage business ethics.

In Community, our club has helped funding for Cinnabar Theater, had great success with Lend a Hand to Education, developed programs for Seniors, most notably our singing at Sunrise Senior Living, the Sharing Tree gift giving and Rotary Walks! All opportunities for our members to contribute when they can.

Sheila Bride spoke a bit about our Vocational Service. We have concluded several granted projects including a micro loans program (there has also been a continuation of this project helping children to gain small loans) and a project found at the Festival of Brotherhood helping in the development of a dental clinic.

Of course, our major international project began last year with funding and which will be completed this year is the Osukuru Adopt-a-Village project.  Please visit our website to learn more about not only this project by about all our club is involved in. http://petalumavalleyrotary.org

We will, as a club, have two fundraisers this year: Oktoberfest and the Million Dollar Golf Tournament. Chris Lombardi shared his enthusiasm for the Oktoberfest. He is chairing this year and promises a lot to be new beginning with new art work by Maureen Francis and a new Beer Garden to attract more patrons.sally bell
