PROGRAM: Jim Suver, Hospital Administrator for Petaluma Valley Hospital since May 14th. He comes to Petaluma after 9 years with the Fremont-Rideout Health Group system located in Yuba City. He served as administrator for Biggs-Gridley Hospital. Prior to that, he worked for Catholic Health Care system for six years and Sutter Health for 9 years. His first hospital work was at Novato Community Hospital. He holds a Master Degree in Health Administration from the University of Southern California and undergraduate degree in accounting from Chico State University. A Paul Harris Fellow, Jim served as President last year for the Gridley Rotary Club. He is also a member of the Native Sons of the Golden West, Masons, and the Moose. He is hoping to get involved with Petaluma organizations. He has relocated to Petaluma in the Theatre District along with his 14-year old black lab, Guardian. ![]() Jim is a fifth-generation California and his family still farms walnuts, kiwifruit and cattle-ranches in the Sacramento Valley. He enjoys reading and his motorcycles (he already makes weekly trips to the coast). Story about hosting a GSE team member – thought he was talking to a “baker” who was really a “banker”, thank God Jim found out fairly soon – since he didn’t know much about baking. Jim gave great statistics on the efforts of Petaluma Valley Hospital to serve our community and to improve it’s ranking and standing in the profession. Jim updated the Club on the progress in expanding the birthing facility. He mentioned the new equipment at PVH and the piloting of the Electronic ICU; which provides linking to regional hospitals such as Stanford. Nation-wide trend to have Intensivists (doctors who specialize in intensive care patients). Work is progressing on bring the new 64-slice CT-scanner into PVH to allow whole body imaging. Toshiba has just come out with a scanner with over 1,000-slice system. PVH has already made improvements to meet seismic bracing requirements. Jim shared information on hospitals in the area willing to keep building to serve a greater region. We need to make sure we keep a facility in the community to serve the community. Great questions and a few compliments from Club members. ![]() Meantime.....the First Friday Social was held at Sally Johnson's house (with a little help from husband Will) A good time was had by all....well, all who attended!
