coming soon: Forrest led the Pledge of Allegiance. Thought for the Day: offered by Trisha - Look at Your Gifts ~~ That is the gifts that we’ve been given? To deny that we are gifted, perhaps, to indulge in false humility, which allows us to shirk responsibility for the gift. But the gift is a sacred trust . . . .It asks that we develop it. And it asks that we pass it on. –Deena Metzger INTRODUCTION OF ROTARIAN GUESTS: Dolores Williams (Dawn’s mother); John Clark –our newest Paul Harris Fellow (Connie’s son); Sara Mills-Gaines (home equity specialty, guest of Tricia); Ray Jensen, (Walt & Sue’s grandson); Riley Frenzel (Tabatha’s son); Michelle Cologne (6th grade teacher who is heading up the pen-pals for the students in Osukura); Kristin Berger (Development Director, Sonoma State University & speaker);

There are a few things left from the Pelican Art show (Osukura) and we need to tie-up the loose ends and get the $$ in. Board Meeting (August 21st ) – reports from committees and subcommittees due. Jo presented a check from advertising for $115.00 (Rotary insert in the Argus Courier). HAPPY DOLLARS, FINES, ETC.: Tabatha had another birthday - 21 again – celebrated with a BBQ-(tri-tip, flowers, and fun) Todd Cary and wife, Corol Ann, had a great celebration for Todd’s birthday including the attendance of his 95year-old father. Another missing Rotarian - Derek Stefan – had a birthday – maybe he still out celebrating. Liz’s hubby, Don, had a birthday as well. Elly and Monica – more missing Rotarians- had children with birthdays. Club Anniversaries included recently debunked president, Russell, with 9 years in club. Kathy
Flynn, also with 9 years in club, announced the publication on
the history of Petaluma and Mare Island that she and Bill have created
and have for sale at the bargain price of $10.00 each.Deni and Monica have been with us for one-year. Everyone put in a dollar in the bucket towards Deni’s fine schedule in appreciation for all the printing she has generously donated to the club. Thank you Deni! Forrest has two special celebrations on Aug. 16th – PVR anniversary of 33 years and 65 years of marriage to Laura. Ron Johns has a sign-up sheet for Rotarians to volunteer as Mentors to new members. Jo reminded Sally that she forgot to fine Austin for the articles in the Argus Courier. He had a letter in the Opinion section but was outdone by wife, Chandy, who made the front page! Chandy is also training for a half marathon in Disney world for which she needs to raise $4,100. Lane raffled the two Raiders tickets donated by Connie to patrons of Rooster Run and Donated the money received back to the club. Good Job! John
Clark, Connie’s son, became a Paul Harris Fellow and Sally
surprised me when she told me that she had received my second
one. Thank you to Connie for finishing that for me in honor of my
birthday!Pam and Jo will hand carry the Pen Pal letters that the 6th grade students are writing under the guidance of Michelle Cologne, 6th grade teacher at Miwok elementary school. This will be the first set of pen pal letters to Osukura, Uganda students. We are hoping to get more kids involved and publicity; also asking for contributions for the postage that we will purchase and give to the teachers in Uganda to use in mailing letters back to the students here. Other donations needed are toothbrushes, pencils, portable sharpeners and other school supplies or money so that they can bring the supplies to the kids. This type of project gives the United States students a better understanding of what is happening in the world. Kathy Flynn made special contribution of a Petaluma history book. Pam and Jo are also wanting to take pictures of our environment (4X6 prints) (of our world & area) not our homes or things (comparison is not good). They will be taking a digital camera with them that Todd donated. They also need Polaroid film for the camera Dawn donated (Pam will check the camera and let us know what kind of film it takes) Pictures are very important to the people in Uganda and a great way to share and connect. RAFFLE TIME – Rose drew Dawn’s ticket and Ray drew the marble – but alas, not the blue one. SPEAKER – Kirsten Berger, Development Director in the Office of Development for Sonoma State University. Topic - Green Music Center at SSU. ![]() The principals behind the vision for the Green Music Center are SSU President Ruben Arminana and his wife Marne Olson, Donald and Maureen Green who gave $10 million to get it all started, and Corrick and Norma Brown. Corrick was the Symphony’s Conductor for 35 years. There are three components to the Center: The concert hall with 1,400 seats which has been modeled after the Seiji Ozawa’s Hall at Tanglewood in Lenox, MA, the summer home of the Boston Symphony Orchestra. The same architect, William Rawn and the same acoustician, Larry Kirkegaard are being used in this project. The Music Education Complex with a 250-seat recital hall, classrooms, faculty offices and practice rooms. The Hospitality conferencing center will include indoor and outdoor restaurant facilities. The ultimate goal is to blend world-class artistry with first-class educational experiences, where visiting artists can also teach, lead workshops, and enjoy the Sonoma Wine Country. This summer’s 8th Green M usic Festival was a series of 6 music
concerts
that were held last month (July). The inaugural season is
anticipated for Fall 2009. The audiences will drive programming
for the Green Music Center.While construction is underway on all components of the Center, you can drive by and see it from outside the fence or call to schedule a comprehensive tour of the site. Kristin will be happy to arrange for tours – just give her a call. Meeting Adjourned More pictures can be seen by clicking here. |
