Thought for the Day:
Ellie quotes Gilda Radner:
“I wanted a perfect ending. Now I’ve learned, the hard way, that some poems don’t rhyme, and some stories don’t have a clear beginning, middle, and end.  Life is about not knowing, having to change, taking the moment, and making the best of it, without knowing what’s going to happen next.  Delicious ambiguity.”

And another anonymous one:
“Life is not measure by the number of breath we take, but by the moments that take our breath way.“

Speaker:  Terry Church, author, “Finding Pegasus”

Terry wrote a novel, thirteen years in the making, fictionalizing her journey as an equestrian Olympian contender to spiritual horse trainer.  She started her horse training business locally and it has now evolved to a national level.  Terry began teaching children about horses at age 17 years old- finding that children and horse relationships can teach a lot about each other.  She trained in dressage, the European horse riding technique which evolved from military applications of horsemanship, which competes with top hats and tuxedo tails.terry
Dresage is a very competitive sport, full of ambition, timing, and performing excellence.  Unfortunately, these qualities don’t mesh with the horses which are very unhappy.  While training in Europe and on track for Olympic team after 11 years, Terry had ruined a high strung thoroughbred and had to rethink what her ambitions were doing to her horses.
Around that time, Terry met the horse whisperer, author Tom Dorrance, and he helped her re-evaluate her perspective on horse and rider relationships.  Horses can help people rediscover their own qualities of patience, living in the moment, etc.  Her book is inspired by Tom and shows her own personal changes and how her relationship with horses and natural world improved.  In fact, Terry is now working with the non-profit Daily Acts, an organization which finds ways of land use in a more natural fashion (see www.daily-acts.org).
Terry then read a passage from her book which describes some of her experience observing Tom’s relationship with horses.  Intriguing Terry, thanks for the insight!
