Wednesday, November 28, 2007 convened by President Sally, theme for the year ‘Rotary Shares’. Forrest F. led the pledge. VISITORS: Jackson Gardner (son of Austin); Jim and Jackie Spahr. ANNOUNCEMENTS / EVENTS. Adobe Winery – 3 – 5 PM Saturday, bring your sports cars (something fun is happening but this hapless Editor has no idea what it is). Winter Wonderland, PVR’s holiday dinner party; checks and reservations due today. Sunrise Rotary’s Cioppino Feed December 1st, support this great Club’s fund-raising effort. Cabaret – That’s Amore – fundraiser for Cinnabar Theater; January 6, 2 PM. Sign up now; call Ellie with questions. December 15th – Holiday Party for COTS at Sunrise Assisted Living; will be staffed by Interact, call Jim O for info. Day at the Races – January 11th sign up soon, the bus fills up very fast; call Jim F. if you have any questions. Libby gave an update to Lend a Hand to Education – short meeting directly after today’s meeting. Sign ups for sponsoring the program are available; also talk to your favorite local business. Youth Exchange – Terry B. – 2 students outgoing next year (will find out where in January). Terry B. will also be serving as the Ambassadorial Scholarship coordinator to start looking at candidates.
HAPPY DOLLARS, FINES, ETC.: Liz M. donated $100 to start her youngest daughter’s Paul Harris. Jim O’ celebrated his daughter’s 20th birthday (trip to San Jose to see The Spice Girls). Mike R. celebrated his Club anniversary (6th). Jim F.’s Club anniversary (19th) and celebrated his son’s 21st birthday in Reno. SHOWERS: Chuck Hartley is back in the hospital due to complications from diabetes (PVH – ICU); send cards and letters. Tricia will past a card around for Chuck. Sue thanked the Club for cards for Ray (our Club is now a feather on Ray’s turkey butt – you had to be there to really appreciate this incredibly cute gesture). Raffle: The wrong marble was selected by John Strong.
PROGRAM: Jim and Jackie Spahr, Spahr Insurance, presented their views on Medicare. Great statistics: From 1990 to 2010 90% of growth was in the senior population. Medicare is under assault, it is one of the most popular programs in our nation. Jim explained medical insurance, eligibility, and the myriad of coverages by Medicare (way too much detail to be included here)...
