Chicken Peepers for Pam- describes how her lust for little chicken peepers started  years ago when they were only available in the spring.
Her secret got out during a PVR visit our sister club in Mexico. Pamela gets them all year long now. She went on to describe President Elect training, where she cleaned up with a fabulous Rotary purse.  Does the shopping ever stop!

Jim O’Grady describes his recent President Elect training time which consisted of lots of classes, meeting RI board members, a Sri Lanka school building project, meeting a woman aviator who set 100 speed records, listening to DK Lee of Korea, president elect, who wants to focus on children next year (did you know that 3500 kids die per day in the world).

Libby- need one more person to do Junior Achievement at Miwok Elementary.  Orientation meeting on March 17th.  Contact her for this fantastic opportunity to work with small kids for 1 hr per week for 5 weeks.   Lesson plan and materials provided.

Topic: Petaluma’s 150th Birthday: The Sesquicentennial Celebration.

The Sesquicentennial Celebration is headed by co-chairs Tom Corbett and Jessica Van Gardner,  Events chairperson, Jan Mandrell, and River Festival coordiantor John Fitzgerald.  It is composed of a number of events and activities starting with the Sesquicentennial Book which is now on sale for $35 and covers Petaluma’s past, present and future.  The book has sections written by a variety of Petaluman’s, many historic photos, and the artistry of today’s kids.  Among the events are:

2/22 Saturday.  Kickoff with authors/artist book signing  who didn’t expect the- 300 to 400 people who came!

3/29 , Saturday, Mayors Gala in Veterans Building, 6-11pm. Black tie and red carpet affair, $85 per person for dancing, good food. and a video tape interview for to be put in the Petaluma Time Capsule.  Features the band: The Notables.

4/19 Butter and Eggs Week that ends with the parade on Saturday.  Come see the opening ceremony, Good Egg award, and a historical skit.

7/4 Sesquifest at the Fairgrounds.  Fireworks, music with The Pulsators and Cheeseballs, theater with Cinnabars Young Theater Rep presenting the Petaluma River Anthology in Herzog Hall, fun with art, face painting, balloonists, and games.  PVR will be helping with event and have a booth for     Rotary public relations.   Lots of beer and wine, food booths, and vendors,  $2 adults, under 13 free.

8/9 Wine, Jazz and Blues festival. John Fitzgerald hopes to bring the Alma up river this year. Service club canoe challenge- PVR has wons three times in row, Yacht club blindfold dingy races, historic trolley on display, and numerous small craft in the water.
8/10 Sesquicentennial River Festival- continues the party in the next day!

Sally gets a phone call, rushes outside to listen to it, and rushes back in to gather her things quickly- her daughter Kaitlyn’s water broke- the grandbaby is on its way!  And so was grandma!   PE Jim, using his newly minted skills of President Elect,
calmly takes the helm of the meeting to a smooth end.

Good job to all and a big thanks to the speakers for organizing a great birthday for Petaluma!
