RAFFLE: No Winners Today
PROGRAM: Kevin Useldinger - Fitness for Busy People
Kevin's athletic career began in San Jose,
California where he attended Lynbrook High School and was an award-winning
athlete in football and wrestling. He went on to Cabrillo College in 1977, but
an unfortunate injury ended his competitive athletic career. In 1980 he started
a local snack food company in Santa Cruz, CA. In the following years he built it
into a successful small business, employing over sixty people. But the stress of
building and operating a small business in today's environment took its toll on
his health. Ten years later, over stressed and burned out, he was then diagnosed
with "Chronic Fatigue Syndrome". In 1990 he sold his company and did a major
revamping of his own life to help create some much-needed balance. In 1991, he joined his father at "Fitness Motivation Institute of America" to help share with others the benefits of health and wellness for a more "balanced lifestyle and productive career". Currently, Kevin is President of F.M.I.C. He is a natural communicator and has motivated thousands of people to make realistic changes for a healthier lifestyle. He has spoken at many conferences and conventions all around the world and has also been featured as a guest on television and radio shows. Kevin resides in Santa Cruz, California and has 2 children, ages 20 and 22.
What does are body need? Rest, Fuel, and Activity - Kevin showed us today how we can get more activity and why it is important to our overall health and fitness. We need to be exercising about 1 hour each day - but even doing 15 minutes a day can be beneficial especially if we do a few minutes of stretching along side some aerobic exercise. Kevin also believes that strength training is also necessary in order for us to be not only shapely but to help us burn more calories.
One misconception out there is height and weight charts. It is far better to measure our fitness level in terms of body fat percentage. This is where we run in to trouble. Fat weighs less than muscle - so we may actually gain weight as we become fit - but our bodies will be much more efficient and our hearts stronger.
So, it is better to exercise 5 days a week; 20 minutes a day in being flexible, strength training, and cardio-vascular fitness would help anyone to achieve fitness.
