Thought for the Day from Dawn: “You can fool some of the people all of the time, all of the people some of the time, but you cannot fool all of the people all of the time, which is why it is good to be a Rotarian!”  thanks to Honest Abe.

Rickie pronounced the First Friday, which was the Second First Friday of the month and was on Tuesday, as a lot of fun with great food that was none the less missed out on by  too many of us! If you signed up and didn’t show…you need to reimburse those who paid your tab….it was catered by the lovely folks at the Banyan Tree Restaurant!

dawn Dawn announced that matching money for Foundation Donations stops at the end of the month…hope you got on the band wagon and made your donation to your Paul Harris in time.

Jim O’ passed around the volunteer sign-up list for the last and next few events. We still need volunteers for events such as: the Chili Cook Off, Rebuilding Together, the Golf Tournament, etc. See Jim.

Fines became Confessions this week at the hands of Frick and Frack…who assigned the punishments to Judge Ann Deliver, alias Pamela Tuft.  Here are the results…

Russell F. was in Hawaii for a week and no one noticed! He got off with being confined to the same table next week
Sue H. confessed to starting Dressage training with her newly reconstructed horse and getting a good deal on boots and a saddle…she was sentenced to sit correctly and elegantly at all times.
Linda P. missed her 1 year Anniversary as a member which was last week…her sentence: to remain a Rotarian forever!
Marsha M. has been wed for 22 years and just won a trip to Cancun!…she was required to drink 22 margaritas while enjoying herself in Cancun!
Jennifer C. Mom turned 60 with a party a Dylan Beach…since she is a beer person..she was sentenced to hjudgeave a steam beer and not get steamed about it. Tough Judge!!!
Liz M. wanted to thank all those who called and wrote while she was laid up from her surgery. She gave spegiftscial thanks and gifts to Jo Ann (an angel pin) and Jo T. ( a scarf) for taking over the Treasurer duties while she was out of action. No fine was levied for humanitarian reasons.                      Nice Judge.

John Strong, however, confessed to lying to Graz Graziano to get him to lunch today so we could award the Rotary Business Award to him. He was cited for being so generous  and lending us the room for  Shadi’s musical fund raiser and helping create it’s success. Graz was given a plaque and a standing ovation!

                                   Hurrah for Graz!

Visiting Rotarian and District Governor Elect Ed Fullerton announced the up coming  District Assembly (April 14th) and the soon to follow District Conference (May 17th)  which includes a golf tourney on the Thursday before the festivities. Sign up now!!!

This week’s raffle prize was 5 prizes donated by our speaker….goodies from her company which makes …..well see the description below! These were won by Jo Ann, Sally, Connie, Jo and Carol Fullerton!

Speaker: Sukhi Singh and her assistant Smitha Haneef

Sukhi Sukhi  runs “Sukhi’s Quick and Easy Indian Food….a company she started when she moved here from England and found that young Indian Americans were losing the ability to cook Indian food. She developed packaged mixes of spices, chutneys, and other products that combine the traditional flavors of India  in a quick to use format.

Lunch to day was prepared using her spices and recipes…and was pronounced good by all who partook. Her products are available at G&G Market, Whole Foods and most local Farmer’s marketsfood

We found out that Curry means gravy, and it varies in spices according to region of origination. Curries from closer to the Equator tend to be hotter than the ones further north. Spices are used for several different things such as aroma, taste and body. Rice is spiced for aroma, curry for taste, desserts for body, etc.

Indians are very religious and offer prayers to different deities depending on what they are about to undertake. Annapurna is the Goddess of food, Sarswati  is for education, which includes the Arts, Lakshimi is the Goddess of the Harvest. All get their respect from those who wish success in their efforts.

Sukhi went on to explain that Indian cooking is slow and low in iron pots to blend the flavors as opposed to the quick cooking of Chinese food or the careful construction of French food.  Rice is a main ingredient of the Indian diet…but is different than the rice we use here.

We also were treated to samples of Indian textiles and jewelry which showed the richness and detail of the culture. Beautiful embroidery and woven silks, diamonds and gold work to die for! Truly a day of sensual pleasures!
